This is a beautiful, high quality, Russian STAUROLITE crystal in matrix specimen. From the Keivy Mountains in Russia. Shown next to a US quarter coin for size comparison. The Staurolite crystals are a deep reddish brown, while the surrounding white-ish colored Muscovite Schist matrix has a subtle shimmery/sparkly quality to it that catches the light as you move the stone around in your hands. (Please note: It is natural for tiny pieces of the matrix to flake or shed off over time.)
Staurolite is a red brown to black nesosilicate mineral that is mostly opaque and is commonly found on a base of metamorphic rock. Staurolite is best known for its distinctive, cross-shaped penetration twins, where two rectangular crystals intersect each other to form a cross. Although Staurolite does form in single, non-twinned crystals, the twinned formation is much more prevalent. The name is derived from the Greek, stauros for cross and lithos for stone and referred to the common twinning.
ALL inclusions present come from 100% natural formations in the stone. Check out how it works with energy below.
It weighs about 1.1oz and measures approximately 1 7/8" inches long X 1 1/4" inches wide at the widest point X just under 3/8" inch thick/tall at the thickest point. Code-032223-13
