This is a beautiful, high quality, Thunder Bay Green Amethyst crystal. This is a natural form of Green Amethyst, not heat treated. This piece has been here charging with Synergy for 20+ years. I only have a few specimens of this quality, and until a couple of years ago they've only been part of my personal collection. This is only the 3rd piece ready to move on to a new home.
This particular piece has a mixture of purple, light green, and grey. Cool patterns and inclusions show up as you hold it up to the sun or a bright light source. It is VERY energetic!
The area surrounding Thunder Bay, Ontario is known for its amazing Amethyst specimens. They are particularly special because of the sheer variety of inclusions possible! All shades of purple (from pale to very dark) with the possibility of inclusions such as... deep red Hematite flakes/caps, Phantoms (on occasion), and unusual green/grey-green/yellow-ish green shades.
It weighs approximately 0.8oz and measures 2 1/4" inches long X just over 5/8" inch wide at the widest point. Code-051324-4
Thunder Bay Amethyst is found in vugs and cavities of varying sizes, anywhere from about 1” across to a cavity large enough for a person to crawl into! These cavities/vugs naturally collapse at some point in their history (prior to miners finding them) from geologic activity in the fault systems around the area. Because of this, it's unusual to find larger Thunder Bay Amethyst specimens with well defined crystals. “Shards”, like this one, are more common than clusters.
Naturally occurring Green Amethyst is uncommon. Most of what you see in jewelry or as faceted stones is heat treated. So far, deposits of natural Green Amethyst have been found in the southern part of the state of Bahia (Brazil), Thunder Bay (Canada), Poland, Tanzania, Namibia, Nevada (US), and New Hampshire (US).
There are also a variety of "trade names" out there for this kind of Green Amethyst from around Thunder Bay. Including... Amegreen, Amagreen, Auralite™, Auralite™ 23, Lime Citrine, and Vermarine. While trade names are, and have been, an accepted practice in the gem and mineral world, sometimes they are overused (in my personal opinion) - which is how you end up with so many different trade names for the same stone.
In regards to the “Auralite™” and “Auralite™ 23” trade names... Some vendors using these trade names claim that every specimen contains at least 17-23 various elements or minerals. I have yet to find a geologist that will agree. There is just no way to know 100% what traces of elements and minerals are inside a particular piece if there are no obvious physical characteristics (like red Hematite, Phantoms, etc. that are easily visible to the naked eye). They do all agree, however, that the only way to know for sure (and only on a case by case basis) is to grind a specimen up and send it to a professional lab for testing. Obviously this is NOT something most people want to do. They want their specimen intact! Regardless, I think this stone is beautiful both physically and energetically. It's one of my very favorites!
