This is a beautiful Thunder Bay Amethyst crystal . Shown next to a US quarter coin for size comparison. It is VERY energetic! The Hematite "cap" on this one is very interesting, with some almost polka dotted patterns to it. There are several shades from a darker red/reddish orange to a lighter red with areas of white/cream mixed in. The base/underside has interesting crystal formations of its own, as well as a darker purple coloring visible.
The area surrounding Thunder Bay, Ontario is known for its amazing Amethyst specimens. They are particularly special because of the sheer variety of inclusions possible! All shades of purple (from pale to very dark) with the possibility of inclusions such as... deep red Hematite flakes/caps, Phantoms (on occasion), and unusual green/grey-green/yellow-ish green shades. MUCH nicer 'in person' than the photos can show! This specimen has been left natural, not polished, and as such it has some interesting organic textures throughout. ALL inclusions present come from 100% natural formations in the stone.
Thunder Bay Amethyst is found in vugs and cavities of varying sizes, anywhere from about 1” across to a cavity large enough for a person to crawl into! These cavities/vugs naturally collapse at some point in their history (prior to miners finding them) from geologic activity in the fault systems around the area. Because of this, it's unusual to find larger Thunder Bay Amethyst specimens with well defined crystals.
