~NEW FOR 2022!~ This is a Pink Amethyst standing stone with several sparkly Druzy lined VUGS throughout. Shown next to a standard 12oz/355ml soda can for size comparison. Photos can NOT show how gorgeous this is. It is much nicer 'in person' - I guarantee it! This one has some lovely purple hues mixed with peachy pink, darker red, and black. The front face has been polished, while the sides and back have been left more natural. The back side has green-ish colored matrix visible as well. Vugs are natural formations, sometimes also known as crystal cave inclusions, and considered highly collectible. Shimmery areas and hints of rainbow sheen are present throughout and become more, or less, visible as you move the stone around in your hands.
Pink Amethyst was found in 2017 and has made quite a splash since it’s entered the market. Pink Amethyst is a rare species of Amethyst that comes only from gypsum or marl beds in the Patagonia area of Argentina in the El Choique / El Chiquada mine. It is colored pink by iron oxides (micro hematite) and sometimes goethite, within the crystalline structure.
The color ranges from light pink, to a deeper peachy-pink. Specimens may also include quartz and amethyst crystals. There can be vugs/cavities with other types of minerals insides, such as aragonite or calcite.
Scientists spent a lot of time examining it and concluded that it's closer to amethyst than any other major mineral, including rose quartz. The Mineralogical Record 51(2):293-303 reports that the coloring mechanism in the pink quartz is the same as that in amethyst, even though it results in a pink color rather than the usual purple, therefore concluding that "pink amethyst" is an appropriate description for the material.
It weighs approximately 1lb 7.5oz and measures about 5 1/4" inches tall X 4" inches wide across the widest point X about 1 1/2" inches thick at the thickest point (varies a bit throughout). Code-01
