This is a high quality black Jet crystal skull. Although it sometimes looks similar to Hematite, it is NOT. It's very easy to tell the difference "hands on", as Jet is warm to the touch and very lightweight for the size. This is Russian Jet, which is actually coalified, fossilized, drift wood from trees in the Araucariaceae family - and over 180 million years old! Although it is chemically related to coal, Jet is much more solid and tough. Jet has been used for jewelry and to carve decorative objects for thousands of years.
